2016 predictions

As 2015 draws to a close, let’s take a look at what I think we’ll be seeing more of in 2016.

Cumulus

With Cumulus under new leadership, by the end of 2016 we should know what the new company looks like. Are they going to file for bankruptcy? I don’t see that as likely, but would not be surprised if it happens. The most interesting thing to watch out of Cumulus is the Nash brand of country stations. Will we see more stations picking it up or dropping it? I’m going to think that the country stations that were never anything other than Nash will stay Nash, but I’m not so sure about the other stations.

Seattle

Will 2016 finally be the year that Hubbard throws in the towel on Click? Since 2010, the station has been through numerous versions of Modern AC and always lingers near the bottom of the pack.

Other Predictions

While Family Stations has slowed down its sell-off since 2011, I still think they’ll be out of radio by 2020. Is Alpha done expanding? It seems so, I’m not seeing much more in the way of deals coming for them in 2016, unless Cumulus decides to sell some more stations. Townsquare would also be one to watch if that were to happen. Also, while not likely in 2016 or 2017, I would not be surprised if we see a sale of KUOW at some point.
