How to image your Country or CHR radio station

When listening to Portland’s AC station k103 earlier this week, I realized why I didn’t like Today’s 106.5, it was because they didn’t play station ids and jingles after every song, which is why I like k103. Most AC stations have roughly the same music mix, although some lean quite a bit older than others. The music mix on most stations owned by Clear Channel is the typical AC mix of middle-of-the-road music, but the jingles that many of these stations are what I like the most. If stations don’t play these ids, then I tend to get tired of them and switch stations. This doesn’t really explain why I like most of the ABC radio stations such as mix 107.3. This station isn’t an aphiliate of the Today’s Best Hits network, but it is run by the same company that runs that network, and probably has the same playlist. These stations have just the right music mix, and the local station ids really don’t do that much to help the station’s immage. Continue reading
